Four years ago, a group of Aboriginal producers came together to try to improve the business environment for our production community. In February 2013, we formed the not-for-profit organization, the Alliance of Aboriginal Media Professionals (AAMP). Our board of directors are dedicated to pro-actively promoting our members to Canadian broadcasters and government funding agencies so that we receive equitable funding for our films, television programs and digital media projects.
Every First Nations, Inuit and Metis person in Canada who works in the media industry is welcome to join AAMP. There really is power in numbers. We are more likely to have an impact as an organization if the majority of our production community joins together!
There are also benefits to becoming a member:
1. If you join now you will automatically be invited to the AAMP Summit 2014 being held October 21-22, 2014 right before the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Festival in Toronto. This gathering features two days of free workshops, sessions, panels, luncheons, coffee breaks and a reception.
2. In 2015, we will be publishing an Aboriginal crew and talent registry that will be distributed to broadcasters, government agencies, producers and distributors. This is an invaluable benefit of being an AAMP member.
3. You can networking with AAMP members. Check out the list of experienced and emerging media professionals who have already become members of AAMP by clicking the members tab above.
4. Unlike some media organizations, we have chosen to keep our dues very low — $100 a year for producers and $50 a year for creative/technical/crafts people.
If you would like to join, please contact us and we will send you a registration form and information on where to send your dues. Thanks.
